Basic information (faq)
- Where do we start? - If you can do two things at once then I suggest that you check your possible wedding dates with both the venue you like AND your celebrant. Otherwise you may find you have a venue and no celebrant, or a celebrant but not the venue you really wanted. It’s really important that you keep the potential celebrant and your venue fully informed. Please don’t leave anyone with your date pencilled in longer than neccessary before you confirm the booking. If you no longer need a celebrant to hold a date for you, please tell them as soon as possible. The same goes for a provisional booking at a venue.
- How soon should we start? – It all depends on you but a year is good, I’m regularly taking bookings 12 months or two years ahead. This is specially important in the busy time of year from April/May to September. Some people like to have things in hand well in advance, others are just naturally more spontaneous and last minute! Remember though, that you still have to go through some formalities with the Registrar’s Office, so don’t leave it too late. (Current rules are for a minimum of 15 days’ notice)
- How do we contact the Registrar and how do we find the right office? – The General Register Office for Scotland has a very helpful website which will give you all the information about the rules, and will help you to find the right Registrar’s Office to submit your forms to. http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/regscot/getting-married-in-scotland/i-want-to-get-married-in-scotland-how-do-i-go-about-it.html
